Topic: What One Question Would You Raise?

How to create and maintain professional business relationships? To do so at The Appalachian Trail Conservancy we use 6 steps.
  1. Identify
  2. Strategy
  3. Cultivation
  4. Proposal
  5. Agreement
  6. Stewardship

First we identify potential donor and then research their giving potential. Next we strategize, like any good message we plan out how we are going to target this individual and spark their interest in becoming a part of the ATC. Cultivation is educating them more about the organization as well as getting to know who they are. Step 4, make a proposal or ask for a donation. This is based on previous donations made to like organizations or make to ATC. Basing what they have given and asking for a reasonable amount again for the following year. Agreement, make an agreement with the donor on what they are going to donate yearly. Generally donors are encouraged to make a donation that gradually increases yearly. Stewardship, making the agreement that individual will contribute yearly to organization. This is the final step to building donor relationships after this we maintain relationship by keeping contact and making donor aware that they play an important role in this organization.
